Through Steph and Dave’s speeches, we learned that Limericks play a good part in their lives. Going back to when Steph was a wee girl and instead of asking Dad for a new horse… she wrote him a limerick instead. I’m no poet, I don’t even know if this passes for a limerick..  but I know already.. I won’t be quitting my day job! :-D

There be a wedding, One fine Blenheim day…

With a dress so stunning, the sun wanted to stay.

We’ve yet to meet the bride, but here are her boots…

…her earrings and shoes…

…And the grooms cufflinks, that he better not lose.

Still to meet the bride, but here is her groom. He’s ready to go, he’s off with a boom.

The bride is a comin, but here are her flowers…

Her Dad and her Mum, that she once would have believed to have super powers.

Here is the bride with Nana in tow..

All happy and gorgeous with the car and it’s bow.

Here comes the bride to say her I do’s…

Looking majestic. Radiance does ooze.

Her groom looks so handsome, she can’t help but smile…

…but now she must concentrate on signing while at the aisle.

‘We did it’ he sez with a face so proud…

The congratulations came in great quantities from the crowd.

A look so sweet and captured forever…

A photographer in crime who outshot me, oh he is so clever….

A gentleman’s agreement is at hand…

To chug the beers, have some photos and later, there be a band!

All in a line, how smart they look…

…Just a few naughty whispers is all it took…

If we ever got hungry, we could have had grapefruit…

but I was a little too infatuated with what we had to shoot.

Leaving Saint Mary’s and off to the farm. There be some jumping…

and high fiving…

and a horse so calm.

Throw back your mane and have some champagne.

The girls were happy, not a single drop of rain.

The laughter can continue at the reception…

But not before gaining a new per-ception.

The sun started to set and went a rich yellow…

The speeches were epic and far from mellow.

There was lots of cheersing to one amazing day…

With an amazing view, as the day run away.

The darkness of night just means its time to dance.

The band played lots of 80′s music which wasn’t by chance.

Happy to be married… they swing and move.

Which made it easy for the guests to get on their groove.

This is the part where I show you the bling…

And say good night to a gorgeous day fit for a King.

Steph and Dave, thanks so much for inviting us into your day. Doug and I were thrilled to be apart of it. Once again, Congratulations to you both. x

Doug and I repeated to each other throughout the day and as we looked at the photos and thought about their speeches. Kate and Shaun are incredibly social people. They love their people and their people love them. Their people that have been there since the moment Kate and Shaun woke up in separate rooms with a vague recollection of meeting a ‘someone’ the night before. The only reminder was a note Shaun had written for himself to call ‘that chick Kate from Vespa’. One partially blind date, one gorgeous 10 month old son and 8 years on… Kate gifts her girls in purple a bracelet each engraved with a friendship quote…. on the day she marries that guy from Vespa Bar.

Across the way and through some trees, Shaun enjoys the sunshine on the deck for as long as possible, showing some mighty big welts thanks to a stag do he’ll never forget.
But tie time comes around quick.

They scrub up pretty nice! Nothing compared to Master James though.

The laughter never stopped and Kate, Shaun and baby James show us what a beautiful family looks like.

We left the guests with the beautiful view, the hot hot sun and pleeeeenty to drink for a wee while…as a giant chessboard awaits us.

With the turquoise waters that felt good between the toes.

Kate is so down to earth. She was relaxed all day long. Veil in the water? ‘Oh well’. Dress dirty and wet ‘I’m only wearing it the one day’. And then I over heard her ask her girls if she was a Bridezilla… faaaaarrrrrrr from it Kate!

Then we tried something. I asked if Shaun could hold Kate up in the water. They thought they’d try it on land first. And then it was decided that Shaun needs to hit the Gym a little bit more! lol

6pm and the sun is still striking hot. But the reception awaits…

…with cute faces such as this!

And delicious food to tempt the tastebuds!

Remember the dancing on the jetty? That was reserved just for me. The reception got a way cooler first dance…

…And everyone had themselves a darn good time!

Kate and Shaun. What a pleasure it was to be invited to such a beautiful day with all your personal touches. From beginning to end we could tell how loved you are and how much you love those around you and each other. We feel lucky just to be able to capture such a genuine atmosphere. Enjoy your honeymoon in Fiji and once again, Congratulations Mr & Mrs Connolly.

The day you get to capture the wedding of someone you’ve known since you were 7. I’ve known Shaun a long long time. Going back in our Judo days with our kick ass moves, awkward dress sense and terrible hair styles. (Yes I speak for both of us). And now we’ve grown up and I’m happy to report that our hair styles (and dress sense) have improved immensely! …Well Shaun’s have at least!
And although we lost contact for a while as we both went on our own adventures, and experienced the world in our own ways. When Shaun and Claire arrived back in New Zealand a couple of months ago and asked if I would shoot their January 13th wedding. I couldn’t be more excited.

I’d met Claire a few times. But the more I spoke with them both as they are now, after travelling the world together and living life to the max. I couldn’t help but identify their relationship with Doug and my own. That’s when I got even more excited! I just knew right then and there, that this was going to be one of those epic weddings, with that personal touch. The type that tug on the heart strings…

…Was I right or was I right… just wait and see…

Shaun and Trevor. Brothers and best mates. But Shaun became the b*stard (Trevor’s fine words from his speech) at the age of 12 when he grew taller than Trevor. But that’s ok, Trevor forgives him and stands by Shaun today as his best man!

And then he finds the list! … Actually, Claire and Shaun as a team have to be the two most organised people I’ve ever met. To organise a wedding as amazing as this in just 2 months… you’d have to be!

I arrive to an equally smiley Claire. Who points the way to the dress that has my jaw drop so low I imagine looking like Jim Carey in ‘The Mask’. I think I just fell in a love a wee bit.

Claire spends her wedding morning at her Nana’s house, Heather. (Great name!). Nana’s house is immaculate. Beautiful antique chairs and mirrors and ornaments that all have their place. I was in photo heaven!

Just as Claire smiles 24/7, her Mum Linda does too. But how could you not, seeing your daughter prepare for the wonder that is marriage.

Aimee and Laura were amazing bridesmaids. They made a fuss and made sure everything was in place.

And now the personal touches start cropping up. See this handkerchief?! This was with Nana Heather when she married Grandad Pat many many many years ago. Now sewn into Claire’s dress, this along with the garter has been passed through the generations.

This is about the point where the eyes start getting a little puffy. Not Claire though – me! She just looks absolutely sensational!

And then the smile doesn’t leave his face for the rest of the day!

They join two sands that mix together symbolizing the unity of marriage and a long life together. I love this!

And now they jig. They dance and groove their way up the aisle. You guys seriously rock!!!

Nana Heather and Grandad Trevor congratulate the bride. They couldn’t be prouder if they tried.

We snuck off before group photos to have some photos with the car Claire rocked up in.

Then the groom went missing…. and so did the car… Hmmmmm.

I should have learnt by now, if there is a car involved with a nice shiny bumper.. I WILL find through my downloaded images a face in that bumper. I did warn Doug I may just blog one, one of these days… haha… Ta daaaaaaaaa!

While I set up some shots, this gives Doug the opportunity to seize the 70-200mm lens from my grasp and capture some natural beauty.

Everybody likes a shot up their nose. Or perhaps not lol. But they all agreed that they have to work on their funny faces! Am I the only one that practices my funny faces in the mirror each night? Oh dear.

But we had to leave the ball behind for now, but I don’t think Shaun was too phased. Look who he can now call his wife!

And then it was time for us to go home and reflect on such an amazing and heartfelt wedding.

It was such a privilege capturing your special day. I’m sure the rest of the evening was just as amazing as the day itself. We hope you have an amazing time on your honeymoon. And enjoy the new adventure as Mr & Mrs Melind. Congratulations guys! :o)

It starts with two hearts that become one.

A certain question leads to a beautiful gown.

With a beautiful bride…

… Called Alex.

But what’s a beautiful bride without her dashing groom… we call him Harry (But his name is actually Paul).

And so the story begins. British born Alex followed a boyfriend to New Zealand, lucky for Harry, things didn’t work out. Within a year Harry went looking for his dream speed boat on Trade Me… and came away with him dream girl.
A trip to England to visit Alex’s family. Had Harry with intentions of proposing. A very nervous Harry, had Alex thinking he was going to break up with her. But instead, a proposal, in a beer garden with family close by…
…Near a morbid looking river that seemed like a murder mystery could take place (unfortunately… that part is true). Soon after they headed to the pristine beaches of Croatia where Harry imagined he’d propose. But Hey, that’s no story to tell the kids… unknowingly proposing near a river where deceased bodies had recently been found … now that’s a story!!!

At least this story… is a happy one!

The emotions of the day run from beginning to end. A unbelievably proud Mum helps Alex into her dress.

As Dad reads over his speech and awaits to see his only daughter as a bride.

But tears couldn’t ruin the gorgeous make up by Mariessa Waddington.

Seriously WOW!

Alex’s parents live in England, and couldn’t be prouder of her and the life she has found in our rolley city. Especially the man she found along the way.

Before we know it… It’s show time. Harry awaits his future wife at The Vineyard at Rossendales.

And he couldn’t be more stunned with how she looks.

I love how Alex and Harry’s Mum’s hold onto the rings and stand with them as they exchange them.

I now pronounce you husband and wife and the crowd goes wildddddd!

Happy to be married? Abso-freakin-lutely!

It was meant to be bucketing down with rain today. Thank you blue skies for showing your face to give these lovely guests the chance to wear their sunnies and toast to the new Mr & Mrs Harrison amongst the vines.

Oh did I forget to mention what the Bridesmaids showed up in?! One each no less!

Doug stuck with the guys and uh, there may or may not be a shot of them peeing on the fence at one point. That is something I can neither confirm nor deny. ;-)

2 and half years ago I met this little lady. Our first trip to Gisborne to visit our cousin and her family had me capture this gorgeous wee thing and a very proud Dada.

2 and half years on… Marty looks the same and Ciara has grown into her ‘little lady’ role.

She’s an explorer…

She had her Mama & Dada to herself for 2 whole years… then something happened.

A baby brother was born.

Cillian came along 4 months ago…

He brings a sparkle to his Mama’s eye.

Janet is one seriously proud Mum.

This is an amazing family…

…With a lot of heart and huge spirit.

But trying to convince Ciara to have a photo with her baby brother? …

Hehe, she really does love him!

But tears never last long for this little lady… and the ray of sunshine is back.

It was SOOOOOO great spending the New Year with you all. You guys are fantastic and we miss you something serious!

It has been a year like no other. It’s started with tragedy, ended with tragedy, but the content in-between has been nothing short of magical.

2011 has meant a lot of different things to a lot of different people. Some it was just another year. Some it was the worst year of their life, some the best.

The world is not short of natural disasters (or maybe I’m more aware of them now having been apart of one). Christchurch fell down, Japan got swept away, Chile blew it’s lid and I pretty much went ostrich and buried my head in the sand.

Whether personal or news in this world, I think there is no denying that this has been one dramatic year. I loved it and lived it like no other.

This is the first year in a few years that Doug and I haven’t left the country. But what I lacked in overseas travels, I sure made up in km’s on our new car by racing round the south island every other weekend. And no, that’s not exaggerating. Both business and pleasure had me adventuring from one end of the south island to the other.

Starting off with a bang. A new friendship had Doug and I drive to the very bottom of the South Island for a wedding.
We attended the wedding of Kim and Liam (Kimberley Cheyne Photography). My heart grew in size that day. As if the day wasn’t special enough, we stumbled upon this sea of sunflowers.

On the way home we took my favourite self photo for the year. A great start to the year!

But then our worlds got tipped upside down.
Did this seriously happen? Our city used to be perfect. But she’s healing even with set backs.
But still… disbelief.

The Sweet Affair shoot with Nicole was my first Flaunt that Dress shoot of the year that satisfied my sweet tooth.

Have you ever Road Tripped with 2 Canadian’s? I recommend it. Already good friends, kicked up a notch. Jules, Jill and myself started our adventures on the road in The Catlins. I was about 1 week off getting married; Jill had just arrived fresh from Canada. And Jules had renewed her visa for a whole nother year in NZ! Woo! We had a lot to celebrate.

I’m only just getting started on this adventurous year. But there was absolutely no doubt that mine and Doug’s wedding day in April seals the deal for the best day this year.
I love my people, my family, my friends. And having them altogether in one place just for us. My heart grew again massively that day.

I had two good views on my Honeymoon. This was one, but certainly not the best ;-)

I finally did a marathon. Hardest.thing.EVER! But I was so happy with my time.

Photography is not just photography to me. I like to create. There is always something to take photos of. Hence forth, my Inanimate Romance Series.

2 weeks to organise a wedding. Rochelle & Rogerio brought energy and love all day long. Inspite of the bitter cold… No wonder, because…

…Then it snowed.

Snow = snowboarding = Queenstown = an adventure to see my 2 favourite Canadians.

Hmmm, no snow. Just gorgeousness. Ok I can accept that and a cupcake too.

Then I was home. And would you believe it. SNOW.

An unfortunate broken hand incident put me on ACC. Should I, could I, would I…back to Queenstown? OKAY! Hello again dear friend Walter Peak and The Remarkables.

Fruit became the affair this time. And Jill showed me her striking beauty.

My first acquaintance with Arrowtown lead Jules and I to a luscious field of snow.

There will be a couple of reappearance’s from last years highlights. Max is one of them. He’s grown up a bit and he’s cuter and more awesome than ever.

Same blue wall, but a 1 year old Luke and a whole cake later…

I couldn’t wait to see how gorgeous Max’s friends are. I did a week of amazing photo shoots in Tauranga in August.
Malakai’s smile and Fire hat melt me like a popsicle.

I photographed Brooke as a bump 36 hrs before she was born. And now I meet her as a 9 month old. Isn’t she beautiful.

Remember that broken hand I ever so slightly glazed over a few photos ago?… well.. that was a blessing in disguise. That incident lead me to resign from full time work so I could take on my photography business full time.
My first day, the gorgeous Trent’s Vineyard, 25 stunning wedding gowns and 3 beautiful models, modelling gowns for Loretta Bridal Boutique.

Year 2 of the bluebells and one year on…

2011, the year of the obsession with chalk.

Queenstown. Again. A wee holiday to celebrate my new photo career. I went for a run and came back with an idea. This was the result : Feelin Groovy

A difficult pregnancy holds on. Week 33, my future nephew is going strong. I was able to capture the beauty of spring in the park and the beauty in my sister Carol and her man Terry.

My passion for jumping was kicked up a notch…

I even introduced it into my engagement shoots.

An impromptu Flaunt that Dress shoot in a yellow field with Kim. Hmmm. No yellow fields where we thought. But a sweet stop motion was made instead.

Another idea took a few attempts to nail.

I now have a teenage nephew. There’s a stop motion about that too. (Notice another obsession?)

A trip up north to Blenheim this time took place to visit our friends Jess & Paul Jones. And we did Lighting techniques 101.

I photographed this little guy. He made me smile.

Just because I no longer work with this dancing lady right here, doesn’t mean I can’t photograph her. Mama Evelyn  showed me what she’s got!

November was suuuuuch an eventful and amazing month. As were April and July. Hey look! Yellow fields!

My gorgeous husband Doug turned 26 this year. I don’t seem to know how to buy a gift. So I made him a stop motion (last one I promise) of our life together so far.

Hey look, it’s Kim again! Fancy that. Our actual Flaunt that Dress shoot in Arrowtown.

She made me feel beautiful!

The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party has been done time and time again. But not the way Kim and I roll. A cinematic shoot took place with 3 stages as a result. Posters, The Trailer and come mid 2012. A children’s photographic story book.

I think we almost peed our pants with laughter that day.

A trip to Queenstown means I have to come home at some point. At least the drive is beautiful.

A childhood friendship came back into my life and now I get to shoot his wedding in January.

I’m also stoked to have Shaun and Claire as the face of something new for Heather Ellis Photography in 2012.

If I’m going to turn a quarter of a century, then a rainbow cake is in order.

Wish for something on Facebook, it WILL come true. My new nephew Alex was born and a day later I met him on my birthday.

Isn’t he beautiful?

His Dad loves him SO much.

Zander will remain in our hearts forever.

Doug creates rainbows for me.

I went on a hunt for the colours of the rainbow.

I met so many beautiful couples this year…

…It’s Christmas and the year is rapidly coming to a close.

Don’t be sad that 2011 is ending, be glad that it happened.
2012 is going to be another blitzer of a year for different reasons and I can’t wait to see what it holds.

Hi I’m Jireh, Peter (The Groom’s) sweet assss nephew. I’ll be narrating today’s blog. I may look like a little kid. But I roll with the big guys! Welcome to Gemma and Peter’s Wedding…

I’m the only guy pimped in white. So it’ll be hard to miss me!

It’s my Uncle Peter’s Wedding and I stand by him proudly.

Peter is marrying Gemma. Gemma is beautiful and I can’t wait for her to become my Aunty.

I think Courtney looks a little stunned as to how pretty Gemma looks…

Check out her dress. Just wait til you see it on. I left the boys for just a moment, went to the girls house and I saw Gemma just when she’d put the dress on.

Just so you know… I’m standing in the doorway! Never far from the happenings of the day!

Gemma is ready to go and we are all waiting for her at the venue, Bramble Grove.
The garden looked sensational!

There was a lot of laughing today. But heads up Ollie, here comes my new Aunty…

I looked after the boys, while Marissa the flower girl looked after the girls.

When it came time to exchange the rings, Uncle Robbie couldn’t get them off the pillow. I quietly snickered to myself.

But Gemma was rude and laughed out loud. Juuuuust kidding! She’s happy to be almost married.

They sealed the deal and now they stand as husband and wife.

And now your family Gemma! How does it feel?

Then we all went to Pines Beach. It was pretty sunny, but that’s all good, we all came prepared with sweet sunnies.

We are a bunch of serious guys.

JUST KIDDING! We so fly!

Then, the ground started shaking. But that didn’t get the girls down. They said a little ‘What up’ to Mother Nature and continued.

Perhaps it was because of all our jumping?

Then that cool guy Doug suggested a Mexican Wave jump…

Everyone thought that was pretty funny.

Then I left with the Bridal Party and Gemma and Peter had some portraits by themselves.

My Uncle is the king of the hill!

And as corny as it is. Gemma is his Queen (remember I’m a little kid that can get away with this sort of talk)

And together they are the dream team.

Then GUESS WHAT? We got to ride to our later reception in a HUMMERZINE. I didn’t seem to make the cut for the photo though. Stink.

An amazing day had to come to an end at some point. We were all pretty zonked by the end of it. But you don’t see no pictures of me passed out. hehe. Shhhh, don’t wake her.

Congratulations Gemma & Peter. Uncle Peter, you looked smoooooooth and Aunty Gemma, you looked really amazing! I loved being apart of your bridal party and those photographers Heather and Doug loved taking the photos. They say it was a privilege.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Meet NZ born Sam and Dutch born Lianne.
They met in Kuala Lumper, fell in love and before you know it, they are one month off becoming parents for the first time.
And they couldn’t be more excited if they tried!

Now beware. The will be a lot of ‘Awwww-ing’ and ‘Arrrrrr-ing’ through out this wee blog post. Because let’s face it, we have a gorgeous couple on our hands that just bought the bacon through and through.

Leithfield Beach has come through for me time and time again. I love this more than words can express.

But then it got better. As if it could.

They soon discovered how bitterly cold the North Canterbury Beach water is! But boy did they have fun with it.

Sam is one proud parent to be. It’s written all over his face.

After only being in Christchurch a short 5 weeks. Sam is an engineer to help with the rebuild of Christchurch. I’m sorry you had to experience those little madam tantrums from yesterday.

But just shy of a month from now, your little one will be born into this weird and wonderful world and I can tell already how lucky your wee one is to have you both as parents. You will be amazing!

The miracle of life. It wows me everytime.
Not having kids myself, I often wonder whether I’m “qualified” to do such wonderful shoots. I am one of those people that likes to know how things feel. You can’t just tell me the pot is hot, I need to touch it! So I can give empathy. (But in this case, it will just have to wait ;-) … Now I’m talking about kids and not touching the hot pot!).

Thursday I met Trudi at Pines Beach. Just days away from giving birth to her second son. She snuck away with her 9 year old son Devon to have this shoot, so she could surprise her husband with the images. Pretty neat thought.

I love how weather plays such a huge part in how a location looks and feels. I was only here with Moira & Rod a couple of weeks prior on a super sunny afternoon. You wouldn’t even know it’s the same location. The mood this afternoon as the rain played the game and stayed away was bea-uuuuutifully perfect for what Trudi wanted to achieve.

This is Devon. An awesome young man with a heart of gold. He’s great big brother material!

Quite the smooth guy isn’t he?!
