Photographic Highlights 2011

It has been a year like no other. It’s started with tragedy, ended with tragedy, but the content in-between has been nothing short of magical.

2011 has meant a lot of different things to a lot of different people. Some it was just another year. Some it was the worst year of their life, some the best.

The world is not short of natural disasters (or maybe I’m more aware of them now having been apart of one). Christchurch fell down, Japan got swept away, Chile blew it’s lid and I pretty much went ostrich and buried my head in the sand.

Whether personal or news in this world, I think there is no denying that this has been one dramatic year. I loved it and lived it like no other.

This is the first year in a few years that Doug and I haven’t left the country. But what I lacked in overseas travels, I sure made up in km’s on our new car by racing round the south island every other weekend. And no, that’s not exaggerating. Both business and pleasure had me adventuring from one end of the south island to the other.

Starting off with a bang. A new friendship had Doug and I drive to the very bottom of the South Island for a wedding.
We attended the wedding of Kim and Liam (Kimberley Cheyne Photography). My heart grew in size that day. As if the day wasn’t special enough, we stumbled upon this sea of sunflowers.

On the way home we took my favourite self photo for the year. A great start to the year!

But then our worlds got tipped upside down.
Did this seriously happen? Our city used to be perfect. But she’s healing even with set backs.
But still… disbelief.

The Sweet Affair shoot with Nicole was my first Flaunt that Dress shoot of the year that satisfied my sweet tooth.

Have you ever Road Tripped with 2 Canadian’s? I recommend it. Already good friends, kicked up a notch. Jules, Jill and myself started our adventures on the road in The Catlins. I was about 1 week off getting married; Jill had just arrived fresh from Canada. And Jules had renewed her visa for a whole nother year in NZ! Woo! We had a lot to celebrate.

Road Trip Catlins South Island

I’m only just getting started on this adventurous year. But there was absolutely no doubt that mine and Doug’s wedding day in April seals the deal for the best day this year.
I love my people, my family, my friends. And having them altogether in one place just for us. My heart grew again massively that day.

Hello, Goodbye November

Oh November, you have been one colourful month.
It’s the last day and I must say I’m not a little bit sad to see you go. Yes you are the month of husbands birthday and my own and now we get to share the month with a new nephew and godson. But you are also the month of the Mo. Yes, it’s for a good cause, yes I support the underlying point. But it still has me with a husband each year with a catapillar that takes residence upon his top lip. And THAT I do not enjoy! (We call him Julio now, he also answers to Piere, Rodreigo, Jesus (Hey-sus) and ‘Oi you with the mo!)

Birthdays, rainbows, fields of yellow, mad happy singing from the woods and wedding dresses in Arrowtown AND a new nephew just in time for my birthday? Yes November… you have been a wonderfully colourful month.

The month started with Doug’s 26th birthday. We went chasing the end of a rainbow (a field of yellow crops)…FAIL. As was it a fail with the my trip to Dunedin to do an FTD shoot with Kim in October. Will I never find my magical yellow field?
We ditched the idea of the yellow field and did nothing but catch some rays in a paddock near Glenntunnel. Trying to get us both sitting AND relaxing together at the same time is quite a mission. So we have SUCCESS in some form!

November Adventures
And the night before, I got my bakers hat on and made Doug a sewing machine cake. Yeah my husband’s a bit of a girl. (Nah I’m just kidding!) He is an epic sewer. His Jean designs are nearing the point they can go head to head with some top designers! Watch out world, DdotR will eventually take you by storm!

Birthday Cake Sewing Machine

Do my eyes deceive me or did I find the end of my rainbow? On my week long trip to Queenstown mid month, I was able to swing by Fairlie where I shot the end of Gemma & Jeff’s engagement in October. Hello heaven..how are you?!

November Adventures

Heaven has a bit of a sting though… my word was it swarming with bee’s. So no diving into it for me. (And yes, I am a cheeseball!)

Yellow field

Jumping over it is a whole nother story!

November Adventures

What did I go to Queenstown for this time you may ask? Why to get into my wedding dress and lye around in some Daisies of course… what on earth do you go to Queenstown for? :-D (Well this is Arrowtown, but let’s not get tooo technical! ;-)
Who took this wonderful picture? The one person that probably gets a mention on my blog more than anyone. Kimberley Cheyne…that’s who. Isn’t she good?!!! And for the sake of mentioning it, I got to paint a rainbow in the woods, in my wedding dress! Worth the 40 something mozzie bites I got from doing so!

Kimberley Cheyne Photoghraphy

Then it was Kim’s turn. Did you check out her FTD shoot?

November Adventures

It’s what we do on Tuesdays… ya know..nothing out of the norm.

November Adventures

We may prance around in our wedding dresses on Tuesday’s…but that’s nothing compared to what we do on Wednesdays…

November Adventures

I’ve been wanting to do a Cinematic Shoot for over a year now. I got into a wee phase of watching Disney’s Alice in Wonderland a few months back.. and after the keeness of my epic friends. This is the result of that phase. Kim and I shot from different view points, Jill and Jules came through for me again and again as did two of their very cool british friends.
Arrowtown got a treat that day.

November Adventures

November Adventures

If you go away, you always have to come home at some point. And with a view like this, it makes for the most amazing drive. How beautiful is our country?!

November Adventures

When life just doesn’t get any better… a new nephew and godson is brought into the world. Seriously… wish for something on Facebook…it WILL come true. 2 weeks prior to Alex’s arrival I’d wished for a baby for my birthday. At 8.13pm on November 19th, Alex graced us with his presence weighing in at 5 pounds 8 ounces. And I got to meet him the next day on my birthday. Thanks for the best ever birthday present sister!

November Adventures

I want to be with him ALL the time!

November Adventures

My birthday had me turning a quarter of a century this year. And it couldn’t have been a more memorable one if I tried. I was gifted 3 of my favourite things in the world. A new mug (which I almost broke on the first day hence why it now sits on my desk with Harddrive wires streaming through it). I’m a sucker for hearts. And brownie in a jar wrapped in rainbow goodness??? YES PLEASE!!! It was DELICIOUS!

November Adventures

Yes… what you see, is what it is. My awesome aweeeeesome mother made me a Rainbow cake! A RAINBOW CAKE! (Do I like Rainbows? … Is the Pope Catholic?)

November Adventures

November Adventures

And like every other month this year… the sun is setting on it pretty fast.

New Zealand Roads

November, you surprised me, delighted me, and had me near wetting my pants. With friends and adventures and workshop and travels. You will always be my favourite month regardless of what you deliver. But this year you delivered it gooooooooood.
I end you with a new logo design, which will start December off with a bang… and just wait for what crops up next month. It’s gonna be gooood. :o)

HAPPY end of Mo-vember all! I hope your month has been just as colourful.

A Snowmance. july adventures 2011

It’s been another colourful month. Theres not a single colour of the rainbow that hasn’t been used. I even had a rainbow painted for me.

July 2011 = ACC. I broke my hand just over a month ago. My first bone ever. That was colourful. Therefore, I had 1 month off my day job.

What to do with myself? I panicked at first. But then the shock post break passed through, the X-rays were complete, my first cast was applied and the pain killers slowly ran out and it turned into a blessing in disguise.
Because, do you know the amount of things you can get done when your not at one place, that’s completely irrelevant to your passion?
A LOT!

Portraits wedding photographer

I am always coming up with ideas left right and center. But it’s just having the time to implement them. This month was that time. It showed me what it’s like to put my full energy into photography. Wow…WHAT A FEELING!
As I sit in a photo seminar, a seminar that I would not have been able to attend had I not had time off. A few ideas struck me. They struck me good.
So guess where I headed? No you won’t guess it, it’s too outrageous.

Queenstown!

But weren’t you there just 2 weeks earlier? why yes I was!
But I just had to do a Fashion shoot with my friend Jill. It was a must!

She rocked ‘The Fruit Affair’ up, down, turn around.. blow a bubble, do a little dance. Rocked it!
These are some fun ‘out takes’.

And then I had a date with Jules to Arrowtown.
Arrowtown, which is many driving moons away from where I live. Where I would very much like to do an engagement shoot! A quaint piece of magic 40 minutes out of The QT. I loved it!

On the way there we climbed a tree, picked a pine cone the size of our head.
On the way back, we jumped into a field of snow.
