Meet Dunedin based couple, Gemma and Jeff.
Though not originally from Dunedin. Gemma was born in Timaru and lived her early years in Tekapo and Jeff, England. As muchhh as I would of loved to have gone to England for our engagement shoot. ;-) We went to a piece of Gemma’s heart in Tekapo to soak up that gorgeous scenery.
We have been trying to organise an engagement shoot for quite sometime. The last time we organised our Tekapo E shoot, I broke my hand the night before. (A bit of an embarrassing call to Gemma the next morning). So the night before our E shoot this time, I had major major butterflys in my stomach. No I wasn’t going to break my hand again… but I didn’t want anythinggggg to go wrong because I couldn’t wait to capture this gorgeous couple after meeting them in March.
So when my power went out for a good hour at 8pm at night the night before… PANIC!!! But then it was fine. Lol.
We met in Fairlie. Given it’s a small place I could not WAIT to shoot a bit of urban, even if it was the cute urban of the tiny town of Fairlie. I wanted to get a ‘Longest Shake in town’ for them to share. No Dairy. I wanted to get them an ice cream. Heatherrrr, NO Dairyyyy!!! Darnnn. A local woman actually said to me “Nope, you came the wrong weekend, it opens next weekend, ya screwed”. Oh thank you Mrs Local.
So a can of juice it was.
Gemma and Jeff came with an open mind and ready to go with my ideas. See these balloons? They had a short life span. I went back to the car to get something and when I returned they were gone and all was left was a sheepish looking Gemma with her jaw dropped. Haha Whoops! They lived the rest of their days at the top of these trees. lol.
And then they played with some skittles. G and J Love Foreves. You gotta admit that’s pretty cute!
Speaking of cute…
Although a little shy at first. They were far from shy of affection and love for one another.
Gemma sez I’m an excellent heart rock spotter. My life is complete! :)
Then we left these rocks up against someones fence. So they soon will discover that some lovely couple will be getting married on this day. They just won’t know who. (Unless they read me blog ;-)
Designed uniquely for Gemma. The ring is simply gorgeous.
We headed to Tekapo after Fairlie and got to know each other a little better. And we discovered that Gemma loves the band Muse and that we were practically rubbing shoulders when Muse played at Big Day Out in January 2010. Small world eh.
Oh the mood. The mood is great. Tekapo gave us some moody magical wonderfulness.
And not to mention that delicious tranquil lake and mountains.

These two have done a little bit of travel together having visited Malaysia at the beginning of the year, to where Jeff’s Mum’s side of the family is from. They have many more destinations in sight.
They nailed the jump on the first shot. They are perfectly in line, smiling and everything…
…so I thought they needed a challenge. It sounded easier in my head. “Kiss while jumping”. Went home, tried it with Doug. FAILED EPICALLY. So.. hats off to you Gemma and Jeff. Solid effort with my unreasonable requests! :)
And just when we thought it was time to go home. I saw this field. Slammed on my breaks, texted Gemma and grabbed my camera again. Thank goodness we did because this was such a beautiful way to end our epic engagement shoot.
Gemma and Jeff. I had such a blast getting to know you both. Thank you for a fantastic afternoon. As I think you can tell, you rocked each and every image. The love you both have for each other is so beautiful and now I am just that much more excited about shooting your wedding in March. It’s going to be great! :)
