‘Deep Grey’ Photographers Workshop

‘Can’t’ … It’s entering my vocabulary for the next sentence and the next sentence only! (Didn’t you always get told whilst growing up that ‘can’t’ isn’t a word?.. I certainly did!)

You can’t work all the time. You can’t play all the time either. … Ahhhhhhhh but you caaaaaaaan take the hand with the ‘work’ in it… and take the other hand with the ‘play’ in it… and put those two hands together! ….

On Wednesday, 9 Photographers from Christchurch and that one token photographer from Dunedin took the day off from editing and computer work to attend the most relaxed, fun and inspiring workshop by Adam Murphy of Deep Grey (Brisbane).
Kelly Shakespeare Photography offered up her house and we lay on her lawn and learn from Adam who has 10 working years experience in the field in both Weddings and Portraits. Later that night, the gorgeous couple you see below (Doug’s image) jumped into some golden sunlight of the late evening and we had ourselves some ‘out in the field’ fun!

So here are some behind the scenes of some truly talented and rockin photographers in our industry!

Meet Adam …

Darn it.. I thought I was invisible!…I was caught getting the wide angle of what everyone was shooting!

The golden light brought on smiles, laughter and so much silliness! … Yes.. I did just do something really silly! haha I’m not going to tell you what though! ;-)

The sun was at that beautiful point for silhouettes. …So like Lions, we took to the grass and some of us jumped into the spotlight instead!

And then the tables turned… and our models took control… He looks a little too cheeky .. should we trust him??! hehe

Thanks for a fantastic workshop Adam. I know everyone had A LOT of fun! And we all came away feeling revived and so inspired. Come back anytime! We welcome you with open arms!

Rebecca & Reuben {Anytime}

Rebecca & Reuben. The model couple.
We’re not here today because they’re engaged. We’re not here today because they’re getting married. They’ve already ticked those two boxes. We are here simply because we have a couple who love each other to the ends of the earth and back and just want to celebrate another year together.

Rebecca is an amazing photographer here in Christchurch. It’s a must do to check out her work… click HERE to do so. Rebecca has been working in a Macaroon bakery part time. And she told me just yesterday that she’s QUIT! … Full time photography welcomes you with open arms Rebecca! A massive congrats! :)

Reuben is a clever man. At just 26 he co-owns his own business developing iPhone and android apps. I felt like a bit of a dill having an iPhone and not having many apps on it! … Sky TV, Stuff.co.nz and Vodafone my account apps… you got them? He created them! :)

This is my Peter Pan, ‘Second star to the right and straight onto morning.’ shot. They really are right out of a fairytale though, don’t you think?!

Why the plaster you may ask?! Haha … well just 2 days prior to their shoot Rebecca proved that she’s not just talented in the photography department, but also in the department of ‘making the impossible, possible’. A simple shower turned into losing half her eyebrow to a face down razor. Even she doesn’t know how the heck she did it. Good thing is, she missed her eye and everyone’s able to have a wee giggle!

I have a loose rule. -Must not leave shoot until somebody is soaked, dirty, sandy or all of the above. Generally it’s me! Great success in this case! :)

It started with sweetness and delicate light and ended with sweetness and succulent pink skies. Enjoy your 2 year wedding anniversary next week you two! And Rebecca… ENJOY full time photography! You’re going to looooove it! :)

Gabby & Dwayne {Engaged}

One regular night out. Dwayne saw someone he liked the look of. He tried to buy her one innocent drink. Just to have the chance of talking to her! But Gabby wasn’t swayed that easy.

But clearly there was no denying it..Because the 8th of December marks the day they’ll be married. There are some things in life you really can’t ignore! Dwayne was one of them!

See how relaxed they are?? That’s because they are. Not just because EVERY single thing is already organised for the wedding (and I mean everything) but because… it’s just who they are!!! Easy going as easy going can be!

Dwayne is from England and Gabby grew up in this area, New Brighton. They continue to live in the area with intentions of buying. I grew up in this area too. I still loooove it!

The evening light was kind. It was so so kind.

Never too cold for a splash!

The evening ended with warm purple skies and we all walked back to the car with our jeans rolled up, feet wet and sandy with the summer feeling in the air. Summer will be here soon enough and so will your wedding! Thanks so much for a fantastic afternoon in the evening sun Gabby and Dwayne! Bring on December!
